How many crocheters are there in the world of today that do take time to crochet a few items a month?

I am just curious, I have loved crochet from a teenager to now in my old age years.

Speaking Internationally I haven’t got a clue, but, I crochet as does my mother, 2 of my Aunts, a couple of friends and my niece and nephew. Most of us do crochet a few things a month, I always do at least one, but I also knit and cross stitch so my time is divided among those too.

I don’t crochet to often, at least not during the summer months. I live in the desert and it is way to hot to work with yarn. In the winter I make large blankets. I make about 4-7 blankets, depending on the sizes. But they are a big deal, I have a waiting list. I learned how to crochet as a young child and have liked doing it ever since. My girls are now into it too. my Sister in law crochets all the time. She is great the things that she makes are incredible.
So there are still some of us left out there :)

I belong to one on-line crochet group that has approx 5000 members. And that is only one group. There are many And I haven’t even checked Ravelry for the number of crocheters participating there. There are lots of crocheters out here all doing our thing, personal and for charity.

I learned how to crochet as a child, and have recently taught my grand-daughter how to crochet (she is 8). I love to crochet and am usually working on something. I usually give away the items I complete. I love to see people’s faces when they receive the gift.

Even from when I started to crochet two years ago, the amount I crochet has slowed down quite a bit. I always have several projects going, but part of the reason why it’s slowed down is because my little boys and my husband don’t like it when I crochet. My husband wants me to spend the time with him (he works about 70+ hours a week) and when he’s not home, I am with my two little boys (ages 2 and 4). I can’t sit down and do anything with my hands without having them want me to put it down. This makes it so the only time I have to crochet is late at night and that’s when I want to be asleep too. :)

I do get the impression that skills such as crochet, knitting, and sewing are considered “dated” and that’s why they don’t seem to be as popular as they used to be.
