People of all ages can enjoy building model railways. Building and operating model railways is one of those fantastic hobbies that can be enjoyed by parents and children alike.

The Hornby name has been associated with top quality model railways since way back in the early 1900′s. This early guage ’0′ model was originally powered with a powerful wind up clockwork motor. Hornby soon introduced an electric model that required a mains supply of 100 to 250 volts. Sensibly, by 1929 Hornby had developed a safe, 6 volt system.

There is a Hornby model train set for every level, from beginner to rail enthusiast. Building a railway system with your children is a great way to interact with them. It provides a basis for communication, cooperation and can be immensely educational. Its also a fantastic way for parents to engage and bond with their children.

A model railway will provide hours of fun and lots of stimulation for creative play. Children can imagine all sorts of stories unfolding around the railway system. Adding a few accessories like trackside buildings, trees and people can really bring the whole system alive.

All children need to play, its an essential part of the natural learning process. Play that involves the parents is particularly valuable. Playing with your children can help you to learn more about them. You will find out what interests them, where they have particular skills and what concerns them. You can stimulate their creativity by helping them to make up stories around the model rail system. Watching children, while they play, is a well known technique used to assess child development.

Putting together a model railway system. He clearly enjoyed the process of setting up the track and getting the system working and his enthusiasm was infectious. He and I would make up elaborate stories involving the people around the track, the stations and the trains.

If you want a great way to have fun with your children then a train set could be just what you need.
