Knitting is a skill which calls for creative thinking. For you to be well placed to bring out your creativeness well, you will want a potpourri of knitting needles.Needles for knitting are split into 2 forms, straight and circular. The regular needles are even further sub-divided into 2 other families, double pointed and regular needles. These kinds of needles serve various purposes and produce other results.

Straight pointed needles are straight and long. They alter in lengths dependent on their purpose. They're distinguished by a knob or cap at one end to prevent the stitches from falling off the needle. Straight needles are commonly used in flat knitting. While knitting using straight knitting needles, most individuals use 2 knitting needles.

Circular needles are 2 needles that are joined on one of the ends by a flexible cable in between. The cable forestalls the stitches from falling off and makes it easy for you to add new stitches. Circular knitting needles help to knit curves or spiral formed fashions without having to turn your work around. They may also be used to knit flat knitting. Like the straight knitting needles, the circular needles vary in lengths dependent on their purpose. I personally find circular knitting needles simpler to be used in making different creative patterns. It's feasible to get circular needles in a fixed format where the needles are permanently fixed to the cord or as interchangeable needles which are in a set containing different sizes of needles and cords.

Double pointed knitting needles have two points, one at each end. Double pointed knitting needles are used in knitting tubes such as socks or sleeves. They come in sets of 4 or five. These knitting needles can at times be used instead of circular needles. Using these varieties of knitting needles needs practice to perfection. The 1st time I used double pointed needles, I was so exasperated and confused. However after doing some practice and being steered by a buddy who has an occupation in knitting, I was able to use them well. According to my point of view, circular needles are more easy to use than double pointed knitting needles.

Knitting needles can be acquired online or in stores. If you are shortly turning into a mommy, or your buddy is expecting a baby, you could knit some fancy baby socks or hat and present them as a gift to the new born. If you know how to knit, you can try doing this. Custom knit attires are unique and you can design them to fit what you want. There is little a new mum would appreciate more than seeing you present pretty designs of sweaters, socks and hats to her newborn honey. Knitting is one of the best activities that any woman could have. If you do not know how to knit, try it out and you won't regret it.

The KA Needles that are so popular among knitting enthusiasts today take their name from the Kinki Amibari Manufacturing Company. Founded in 1916 in Nara, Japan, KA is the oldest manufacturer of bamboo knitting needles in that country. KA’s first product for the handcraft industry was bamboo ribs used to stretch and dry the traditional Japanese Kimono. It wasn’t long before the company’s technological expertise and innovation helped them develop the world’s finest line of Bamboo knitting needle products.

Why bamboo? More than 500 different varieties are availble in Japan, which boasts a plentiful supply. But the experts at KA selected only two kinds of the finest aged bamboo to create its knitting needles. The bamboo used by KA for their needles are selected based on superior quality in color, gloss, density and flexibility. Hold a KA Needle in your hand and there is a distinctive lightweight and warm feeling, with a smooth satin finish and luster that is achieved only through the quality and craftsmanship put into the manufacturing process.

KA offers its Classic Bamboo Knitting Needles in six different styles. Standard (or single pointed) needles come in what bamboo from size 3 on up.00mm to 10.00mm. Double Point Needles, also in white bamboo, available in sets of five, measure from six inches to 12 inches in length.

White bamboo 14 inch Afghan hooks and 12 inch Double End Afghan hooks are two more popular styles. White bamboo 6-inch crochet hooks are sized from 2.00 mm to 7.00 mm, with wood crochet hooks in both 15.00 and 20.00 diameters. If you prefer a grooved grip on your crochet hook, KA’s “Yuraku” 5-inch crochet hook in white bamboo is a very popular model.

KA is the premiere manufacturer of circular knitting needles, constructed of the finest white bamboo and available in five sizes: 9-inch, 16 inch, 24-inch, 32-inch and 40 inches.

KA Bamboo Knitting Needles make an excellent choice for beginning knitters because they are less expensive than wooden needles and come in a wider variety of sizes. All knitters agree, novice and veteran alike, that the warm feel of KA Needles in the hand makes them a pleasure to work with.

Knitting is an art from using yarn or thread to create various pieces of cloth ranging from sweaters and blankets to gloves and socks. With the use of loops and stitches strung between two needles, the cloth takes shape both by hand and by machine. Different products are made by using various types of yarn and needles, thus creating many colors, textures, and sizes.

Yarn and needles are the only absolute fundamentals of kitting. Many options are available when it comes to choosing a pair of knitting needles. For starters, you may have straight, circular needles, double-pointed, or cable needles. Straight needles are perhaps the most common type of knitting needles and will be used for a majority of basic kitting projects.

There are several things to consider when using knitting needles as well. You will have a variety of different diameters to choose from, and you will want to select the size of the knitting needle based on how small or large you wish your stitches to be. Tin needles will make a compact stitch while wider needles produce larger loops.

You will find that knitting needles are generally made out of four common materials, those being metal, wood, plastic, and bamboo. The wood and bamboo needles are rougher, therefore offering more traction and ensuring you are less likely to drop stitches. Plastic needles are not often very sturdy and probably should not be the first choice. Smooth metal needles are great for quick knitting as the yard will slide easier over the needle.

Flat knitting such as blankets or scarves are produced using straight needles. They produce straight, even rows. Circular knitting needles, long and flexible with a double point, are used for flat or circular knitting. Straight double-pointed needles are also used for circular knitting but used to achieve a smaller tube such as for a collar or sock.

There are a few accessories which will make one’s life easier as they begin knitting. In order to keep your set together and your points sharp, it’s good to have a protective carrying case. There you may also store something known as a needle gauge which will help you determine the size of each knitting needle.

Do you like to knit but hate it being so slow? My friend told me that she could do larger projects since she was knitting much faster. I just had to know how she did it. It turns out she uses a knitting needle called Addi Turbo. I went to the local craft store to find me an Addi Turbo knitting set. They were in stock, which was lucky for me. What did I learn about this type of knitting tool?

These needles are so light weight. I looked on the package and they’re made from Germany. I’ve used other knitting needles that slowed me down because of the weight. You’ll notice immediately how well this set works because it is light weight.

Another advantage that I liked about the knitting needle set is how circular they are. You simply thread the needle with your yard. I saved a lot of time due to the snag-free cord. Now, I was beginning to see how my friend can knit so quickly.

You’ll want to be careful in the size of needle you select. The company offers many different sizes for various types of knitting projects. Determine the size of needles you’ll need by looking at your knitting pattern instructions. correctly.

My needles get damaged from hitting them together, which slows down my projects. You’ll find that you decrease time wasted because of the design. You’ll spend less time hitting the needles together. If you do, by accident, the tips are wonderful because they’re made with nickel plated brass. You won’t damage the needles, the way you can with other types of knitting needles.

Take the time to go through the package instructions. The Addi Turbo knitting needles come with great instructions and illustrations. Reviewing the instructions, when you get the Addi Turbo needles home, will help you knit so much faster.

I am really glad my friend shared her knitting secret with me. The Addi Turbo knitting needles speed up your knitting since they are light weight, are circular, have different needle sizes, top-quality tip material and excellent user-friendly directions. The company boasts that these circular needles will improve your knitting speed. I found this to be very true when I used these knitting needles. In fact, I use them all the time now for all of my knitting projects.

When choosing the best knitting needles, start with the project’s requirements. The pattern will indicate a preferred needle size, as well as the number of stiches in the gauge swatch. Depending on how tightly you work your stiches, you may find that you will need needles either slightly larger or slightly smaller than the size called for on the pattern. When you are buying your first knitting needles, you would do better to go to a craft store that features a large knitting department, or to a knitting shop. The staff are usually enthusiasts who are knowledgable and willing to help you choose what you need. Don’t forget to take your pattern with you.

Size

Standard knitting needle sizes in the United States generally run from 000 (the smallest) to 50 (the largest). However, it is also common to see the diameter measured in millimeters (MM). Please be aware that U.K./Canadian sizing is very different. For example, 000 in UK/Canadian Sizing is equal to 10 in U.S. sizing, but they both have a diamter of 10MM. You need to be aware of the sizing standard used by the pattern. Many knitting needle companies will indicate the standard (US or UK) as well as the MM diameter. If you are in doubt, please ask for help at the knitting counter.

Style

For most beginning knitters, the best knitting needle style is the straight needle. The capped ends by which they are recognized help stop stitches from falling off the end of the needle. The specialty needles are used for more advanced knitting patterns.

Material

The most popular materials used to make knitting needles are plastic, metal, wood and bamboo. Not only do each of these materials will feel different in your hands, but they will also interact differently with the thread you have choosen for your project. Plastic and metal needles are very smooth and cool to the touch, but they allow the thread to glide so easily that many beginning knitters can have some difficulty using them. Wood and bamboo needles are warm to the touch, a bit more flexible, and have enough friction to help a beginning knitter to manage the stitches better, but they break more easily than metal or plastic. You may want to try them out to help you choose which are the best knitting needles for you.

Choosing Knitting Needles

You have many options when buying knitting needles. Not only do you have to decide on what type you need, but you also have to choose what type of material the needles are made from. Both decisions are influenced by what you will be knitting and by personal preference. To help you choose the best knitting needles for your project, here is a brief description of these two factors.

Materials Used For Needles:

Knitting needles are made from a variety of materials. The type of material used provides friction that will influence how easy the stitches come off the needle. Sometimes a smooth needle is required for speed and other times a rough needle is preferred to prevent stitches from slipping off by accident.

Wood: These needles have a rough surface. They are light weight and considered environmentally friendly because it comes from a renewable resource. Bamboo needles are a very popular wood option. Bamboo is particularly environmentally friendly because it can grow as fast as 3-4 feet in a single day.

Metal: Metal needles are very smooth. This allows the stitches to easily slip from one needle and onto another needle. Experienced knitters who want to complete their project very quickly prefer this type of needle. Metal needles are very durable and hard to break. The most common type of metal needle is aluminium.

Plastic or Acrylic: These needles are light weight, flexible and inexpensive. They usually have a different colour for each size the needle comes in, especially when they are sold as sets.

Types of Needles:

There are three main types of needles: circular, double pointed and straight. Each type of needle, often referred to as circular or flat, is used to produce different results. Flat knitting creates flat pieces, such as scarves, while circular knitting creates circular pieces or tubes without seams. Some needles can only produce one type of result, while others can create several different types of results.

Circular: Circular needles have two needles at both ends with a flexible cable in the middle. The cable is long, anywhere from 24 to 60 inches. The needles at the end are short, inflexible and have tapered ends. They make it easy to add new stitches, while the cable holds the stitches after they have been added. When knitting with circular needles, hold one end in each hand. The advantage of circular needles is that they can hold hundreds of stitches, the stitches won’t fall off the needles and the flexible cord in the middle can rest on the knitter’s lap so that the weight of the stitches is not felt. Circular needles can be used for flat or circular knitting.

Double Pointed (Dpns): These needles are short and straight, but both ends of the needle are tapered. Stitches can be added from either end of the needle. Double pointed needles are used for knitting tubes, such as sleeves and socks. When knitting with dpns, four to five needles are used at the same time. One needle is used to hold the stitches in place while the other needle adds stitches. One specialized type of dpns are cable needles, which look like dpns, but they are shorter and have a dimple in the middle of the needle.

Straight Needle: The needle is long and straight. There is a knob or cap at one end, which prevents the stitches from falling off the needle. At the other end, the needle is tapered, similar to a sewing needle but it is blunt instead of being sharp. When knitting with straight needles, two needles are used. Straight needles are used for flat knitting, for example scarves or shawls.
